Batalha, Alcobaça and Óbidos

Batalha monastery is classified as World heritage since 1983, its a remarkable building and a milestone in European architecture. Its again the result from a promise made from King D. João I, this time it was the throne and the kingdom who were in question, the Portuguese defeated the Crown of Castile, in a historic battle that lasted only 1 hour, submitting the Castilians to a huge defeat and humiliation.
Alcobaça is the home of another monastery, founded by the Cysterian monks. Full of sobriety is a fine example of the Gothic architecture.
It´s here that we can see the tumbles of Pedro and Inês, one of those stories that take us to the begining of medievel times in Europe: D. Pedro, once king of Portugal, crowned Inês queen of Portugal, murdered by order of his father, the king Afonso IV.
Óbidos is a fortified city from the roman era, remains as a living example of the Arabic and medieval urban trace.
